I have a kids book in the pipeline – close to ready in fact and I think I want some illustrations. The book is a fantasy aimed at kids aged 10/11 and over. I’ll want 14 black and white images for the interior, and also looking for a cover if anyone fancies giving that a go. (more…)

I like dreaming my writing. It’s somehow really connected and visual like watching the film, or being in the story. (more…)
Editing
Friday, June 11th, 2010Can I just say that I hate editing…..
It’s reading the same thing over and over until you can’t see it any more. It’s trying to spot those missing or unnecessary commas.
I hate it. But it needs to be done and I will admit that the books are so much better after a couple of editing rounds. And I offer huge thanks to my handful of beta readers and comma spotters. You’re the best.

What’s going on?
Tuesday, June 1st, 2010Sometimes I get these snippets of scenes wandering into my head and I have to play with them for a while until I work out where they fit in.

Argh, need title.
Thursday, December 3rd, 2009I wonder…
Wednesday, October 28th, 2009I wonder if that phrase, “More than monkey, less than dolphin” should be said to my ten year old main character by a dolphin?
Maybe he goes to the seaside on a short holiday? Where can you see dolphins in the UK?
I don’t think a monkey telling him that would work somehow, and besides I don;t want to get into an argument about human beings being ape rather than monkey anyway…. Although that might be interesting, if a little Terry Pratchett-esque.
We went back in the library…
Saturday, September 19th, 2009I got my 9 yr old to take another pic and either no-one noticed or no-one cared. Then the 9 yr old decided he was going to try to borrow The Portal Between, on a child’s lending card, and they let him! He’s not reading it though, he’s far too young.
