What if….

My favourite phrase, ever.

“What if…”

what ifIt’s a brilliant pair of words, it opens up so many possibilities. I just love it.

That tiny little phrase opens doors and makes the imagination spin off in all sorts of interesting directions. I’m sure you’ve played the game too. Even on a day to day level it makes you think, makes you wonder. What if I don’t bother getting up? What if I try something different for dinner? What if I learn something new? What if this or that happens?

Then there are the more day dreamish What if’s and those are what really spark my imagination.

If someone disappeared, what if they didn’t just run away? What if they were abducted? What if they went willingly and then ended up trapped?

What if magic was real? What if we could get to another world at the flick of a switch? What if aliens are visiting us but we just don’t see them?

What if I write a book? Or several….

What if, is dreams, flights of fancy and talking to yourself. For me, What if sparks fantasy, space travel and adventure. For others it creates romantic walks on moonlit beaches, or car chases and narrow escapes.

It’s the most incredible key to the door of imagination.

What if you let your imagination loose today?

I write, therefore I am.

“Why do you write?”

I’ve lost count of the number of times I get asked that. I often shrug and say, “because I can.” Or, “Why do you breathe?” There’s no easy answer.

But, why do I offer my writing for you to read? That’s a whole different question.

I do that because I am no shrinking violet, I do that because I want, demand, that my voice be heard. I do that because I love engaging with people, love watching people and I bask in the feedback that I get, yes, even the not so positive as well. I love it all. After all, I want my creation to spark a reaction from you. Read More…

This year I’ve set myself an extra challenge, I’m going to share as I write. You are welcome to read along, comment and offer suggestions and feedback – but I do reserve the right to use or not use any comments as I see fit. Read More…

100 Free Tools…

Heh, I like Free, free is good – especially is it’s genuinely free with no strings and no catch and if it actually does the job. This morning I got an email, not unusual you might think but most of my emails are spam and this one looked different so I followed the link… Read More…

November is ages away….

Eleven weeks actually, but that’s ages isn’t it?

Every year I say Never again, not doing NaNo again and I keep on saying that from January right through to about now.

Word wars make for successful nano’ing

funny pictures
More from Lolcats

How does a word war work? First you need to find a writing buddy, or someone to war with. Then you sit down together – or at home but both on msn and one of you sets a timer for 5, 10 or 15 mins, or whatever time you agree but make it short this is for instant gratification.

Then you type, as fast and furious as you can and you wipe the floor with your writing buddy…. Umm, you see who’s written the most words. Then let out a small cheer and do it all again.

Do this 4 times for 15 mins each and you’ll beat the daily Nano word count target of 1667 words easily. You can edit it in January, don’t worry.

90,000 words!

The Portal Sundered, sequel to The Portal Between, now stands at 90,000 words and I was aiming for 100,000.
